“Saying Good Bye…”

It is with heavy hearts we inform you that the November event will be the last meeting of the Womens Focus Group. The final decision to discontinue the organization’s affairs was made by the Board of Directors and voted by majority of the members on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

FOCUS was organized for “women actively engaged at a management level” in a business or profession. For almost 40 years this organization has offered programs of educational value and interest, promoting friendship among its members and celebrating professional women. Over the years FOCUS became one of the premier professional women’s networking organization in Ozaukee County.

Each year Women’s Focus awarded up to $2,000 for scholarships through the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). Each scholarship of $1,000.00 per semester was awarded to an outstanding, female student seeking a degree at MATC. In appreciation of our monthly speakers, Women’s Focus also made donations to many organizations in the area, Boys & Girls Club of Milwaukee, Camp Hometown Heroes, Metro Milwaukee Big Brothers Big Sisters, Ozaukee Humane Society, United Way of Northern Ozaukee and Kathy’s House, just to name a few.

We want to thank the founders of this organization – Susie Son, Lee TeSelle and Carol Ann Schneider and many other great women for their hard work and dedication. You’ve been an inspiration to all of us!

We came together for the final time on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 and celebrated the story of an organization that brought together many wonderful women and helped created friendships that will last a lifetime.  It was wonderful to see so many of the our current and past members and hear how our lives have and continue to evolve.

Final ‘Food for Thought’

“Be the kind of Woman that makes other women want to up their game.”

March 29: Evening Social at Member Business Leap of Faith

Plan to join us for our next Social Event at the Leap of Faith at W64N707 Washington Ave., right across from the Cedar Creek Settlement.  After enjoying the fun shopping party at this member business, we will adjourn to the Chiselled Grape Winery next door at W64N713 Washington Ave.  for a wine tasting.

Leap of Faith:  “Meaningful” describes the many items that abound. Pleasant music invites you to relax while making that unique purchase for yourself or someone special. Select from carefully chosen artistic creations, jewelry, thoughtful gifts, books, CD’s and photography including Cedarburg photos and photo cards.

Leap of Faith, began about 20 years ago at the Cedar Creek Settlement in Cedarburg as an art studio by Patricia Lietzke, a Focus member. Within a few years the studio evolved into a gift shop with the focus on meaningful gifts for all occasions, and her daughter Amy O’Shea joined her.

Patricia “retired” about 4 years ago and Amy moved to a larger location across the street from the Settlement on the Northwest corner of Bridge and Washington, and Patricia and Amy now work together, maintaining the same focus and able to increase their offerings.

We look forward to having you join us in the shop for a private “After Hours” social event on Thursday March 29, followed by a wine tasting next door at Chiselled Grape Wine Shop.

November 8th: An Evening with Lynne Oehlke, Fine Jeweler

Meet Lynne Oehlke, owner of LJO Creations, and learn about  her business up-front and personal on Wednesday, November 8 from  5:30 pm  to 7:30 pm. Join Lynne and other Focus members—bring a friend—at her home/bench at 400 W. Revere Rd., Mequon. Their  driveway is in the bend in the road between other driveways so look closely.

We will have fun learning about creating a patina, casting a botanical, taking care of silver. Bring your fine jewelry to the gathering if you are curious about alternative designs or if you wish to get a quote on selling some gold jewelry.

This is not Lynne’s first career. For much of her professional life she worked in the fields of child welfare,  as a grants coordinator/writer for Milwaukee County and UW Milwaukee and as CEO of St Catherine Residence, a two hundred unit housing facility with supportive services for women. Leaving gave her freedom of her calendar and an opportunity to grow a part-time jewelry business into a personalized service offering custom designs.

She sees her new venture as a means to develop the  her creative side, meet fun, interesting people and  to support the work of nonprofit agencies, especially those servicing women at a higher level than she might other wise be able to.

As owner of LJO Creations, Lynne Oehlke defines her mission as a fine jeweler who provides customized personal service and the highest quality jewelry at prices her customers feel comfortable affording.

While specializing in fine jewelry through her buying power with internationally known wholesalers she enjoys creating jewelry using multiple metals. She has developed skill at integrating natural stones, pearls and  “botanicals”  (dried plant material that has been cast in silver) into her creations. As a metal smith she can repair broken jewelry and finds fun in recreating or “repurposing” fine jewelry that has lost its allure, functionality and/or a mate.

Lynne’s inventory and catalogs will be available for shopping  while enjoying great company, partaking in a glass of wine or other beverage and tantalizing munchies.
